Major Celtic boost as 27-year-old returns to squad v Hamilton

Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths will be available for selection against Hamilton at the weekend.

The Bhoys host relegation candidates Hamilton on Saturday in the league and will be boosted by the return of one of their key players.

Griffiths has been absent from the side as he recovers from a calf injury, but will be pushing for a place back in the starting XI.

The 27-year-old has not featured since a cameo appearance against St Johnstone on 25 January and has had a run in Rodgers since, as the manager publicly shamed the forward for his attitude and professionalism

Rodgers insists that Griffiths is set to return from his injury at the weekend and that he has had a high work-rate recently.

“He’s (Griffiths) back into the squad for the weekend which is great news. He’s worked very hard these last couple of weeks,” Rodgers said, as quoted by the club’s official Twitter account.

Griffiths will be aiming to get back into the starting line-up and will need to compete alongside his in-form team-mate Moussa Dembele, who has scored two hat-tricks in recent weeks.

Rodgers is likely to slowly bring the forward back from his injury as they look to continue their unbeaten domestic form.

Griffiths has been very much the second option in attack this season, but has still managed to make 26 appearances across all competitions.

The forward has scored an impressive 13 goals in return and supplied eight assists.

However, he is yet to really recapture the top form he showed last season when he was spearheading the attack and still has a point to prove to Rodgers.
