Danny Rose will miss Tottenham’s Premier League clash against Middlesbrough and could face a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Spurs have been hit by a major scare to the left-back after he underwent a scan on Wednesday on a persistent knee problem.

It raised enough concern for the club’s medical team to book him in to see a knee specialist next Monday amid fears of serious damage to the joint.

Manager Maurico Pochettino has not put a time frame on Rose’s absence other than confirm he will play no part in Saturday evening’s home league fixture against Boro at White Hart Lane.

“Danny Rose had his scan yesterday,” Pochettino told Spurs TV as quoted by the club’s official website. “Now we need to wait until Monday when he is going to see the specialist and we’ll see afterwards.”

Rose was absent from Spurs’ 4-3 FA Cup win over Wycombe Wanderers last Saturday due to a slight knee problem but returned to the starting line-up for Tuesday’s trip to Sunderland.

The England international he was forced off 38 minutes into the match, while ended in a 0-0 draw, and was replaced by his understudy Ben Davies.

The versatile Wales man is set to once again stand in for Rose this weekend, and Spurs will wait nervously for the outcome of the left-back’s visit to the knee specialist.
