Malo Gusto reacts to Benoit Badiashile’s ‘crazy’ Chelsea post

Chelsea’s victory in the FIFA Club World Cup Final could lead Enzo Maresca to re-evaluate several of his players’ futures.

The Blues return to Stamford Bridge this summer with the Club World Cup trophy in hand, after beating a much-fancied PSG side 3-0 in the decider with arguably the best performance of Maresca’s tenure.

Cole Palmer’s early brace and a third goal in just two games from new signing Joao Pedro had the result wrapped up by half-time, as Chelsea pick up back-to-back trophies after the UEFA Conference League.

Maresca made use of every outfield player in his 28-man squad and added Joao Pedro to the mix mid- tournament, and the rest of this summer’s window is likely to see Chelsea’s squad be cut down to size.

Badiashile sends ‘crazy’ message amid Chelsea uncertainty

Chelsea played a whopping 64 matches in all competitions last season after going all the way in both the Conference League and Club World Cup, and Maresca used 45 players in total across the campaign.

With the Blues likely to reduce that number significantly next term, Gusto was one of several with their eyes on a potential exit until he had arguably his best display in a Chelsea shirt against PSG on Sunday.

Badiashile hasn’t featured anywhere near as often as Gusto and just five of his 22 appearances in all competitions came in the Premier League, with a further two starts in the Club World Cup this summer.

The 24-year-old posted on Instagram (14 July) to reflect on his last month of action with a collection of images from Chelsea’s US excursion, with the message of; “a month full of memories”.

Gusto was one of several Blues players to respond, and did so in French to say; “crazy [photo] dump, my brother”.

Chelsea changes set to leave Badiashile in limbo

Football Insider Verdict

Only Levi Colwill and Tosin Adarabioyo started more matches than Badiashile’s 20 in all competitions, but that’s caveated by the fact that Trevoh Chalobah played for Crystal Palace for the first half of last season.

Axel Disasi was also shipped out on loan to Aston Villa in January and Wesley Fofana spent most of the campaign injured, suggesting that Badiashile could fall well down the pecking order if he stays put.

Maresca’s 45-strong squad has already been added to this summer, and despite the Blues’ return to the Champions League next term, fans will expect Chelsea to reverse their stance on Badiashile not being for sale this summer.
