Finance guru hails ‘brilliant’ Man City after ‘remarkable’ announcement

Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are the only clubs besides Man City to have so far turned a profit for the 2020-21 season.

That is the view of finance expert Doctor Dan Plumley, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about City’s “remarkable” annual report.

In the figures published last Wednesday (12 January), City revealed a £2.4million profit for the year ending June 2021.

Revenue increased by 19 per cent to £569.8m despite the near-non-existence of matchday income.

Plumley admitted he was blown away by the Premier League champions’ performance and revealed that they are part of a very exclusive club.

“In general terms, these are remarkable results,” he told Football Insider‘s Adam Williams.

“We have seen every single club in England has posted a loss so far for this year. We expected losses across the board, so to turn a profit is brilliant.

“If you look outside of England, only Real Madrid and Bayern Munich have really come close to City. Real made profit of €900,000 and Bayern €1.9m.

“So they are in a select group, even though there are more clubs to publish their results.

“Commercial growth is where they have really pulled away. Matchday income was only £800,000.

“We can look at this in the context of their owners and the links they have with their commercial partners. There are connections there.

“Nonetheless, this is where they’ve done so well. They have also put a hold on the expenses.

“The wages have stayed steady and they have managed to keep the cost base relatively stable.

“The Grealish figure will be in the next set of accounts, of course. But still, a very impressive set of results.”

City won a third Premier League crown in four years last term.

They also reached the final of the Champions League for the first time.
