Man City 115 charges: It’s the ‘biggest Premier League crisis ever’ – Ex-PL CEO

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has blasted the Premier League as he urged the governing body to bring the saga surrounding Manchester City’s 115 charges to a close.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – called on Premier League chair Alison Brittain to explain what’s going to happen next in the process.

Man City were handed 115 charges by the governing body in February 2023 for allegedly breaching the FFP rules over a nine-year period.

Football Insider revealed last week the hearing is likely to take place in October this year, with the Citizens at risk of being relegated to the Championship if they are found guilty.

Premier League chief Richard Masters revealed last month the hearing will take place in the “near future”, but he didn’t divulge any further details.

Premier League told to reach Man City 115 charges resolution

Wyness has called on the Premier League to quickly resolve the situation after Man City claimed their fourth league title in a row following their victory over West Ham.

He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “I do believe that statement hinders more than it helps.

“When is the hearing going to be? At some point in the future? Everybody is asking ‘When?’. Let’s get this resolved.

“They were very clear on dates and issues around Nottingham Forest and Everton.

“The chairwoman Alison Brittain needs to be held to account very seriously about this. Richard Masters has been the fall guy in all of this and I fully accept he’s got a lot to answer for.

“But as chairperson, with this Man City case, in the biggest crisis the Premier League’s ever had, she’s been completely anonymous and completely absent.

“She should be the one the public are now holding to account. She should be in front of a select committee as soon as possible to work out what’s going to happen next.

“These are big issues. Rishi Sunak said in his speech the other day the Premier League is the envy of the world. You have to be careful.

“It’s about time the Premier League swept up this mess, stopped it and got on with football.”
