Man City 115 charges: Kieran Maguire reveals impact of new Government development
The new independent regulator introduced by the government will not intervene with the 115 charges against Man City.
That is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who exclusively told Football Insider that it will be at least 12 months until we come close to a verdict in City’s hearing.
The government’s ‘Football Governance Bill’ passed this month which promises the introduction of a new independent regulator as its own standalone body.
As per the press release for the bill, the body will aim to “improve financial sustainability of clubs, ensure financial resilience across the leagues, and to safeguard the heritage of English football.”
New government body will not impact 115 Man City charges
Despite the new regulator being introduced, Maguire explained that it will be more focused on the “suitability of owners” as opposed to managing or intervening with ongoing financial breaches.
“The independent regulators’ remit is actually quite narrow,” Maguire told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.
“It will be more concerned with the suitability of owners entering the game.
“So therefore, what we might describe as an operational issue such as the charges levelled by the Premier League against Manchester City will not be controlled by the new regulator.

“That will still go through the due process and it’s probably going to be another 12 months before we can even come close to an answer.
“I can tell you this, Manchester City have to be given time to collate documents to defend each of those charges so this is going to drag on and on.“
