Man City 22-year-old has gone ‘under the radar’ after ‘big’ Kevin De Bruyne reveal – pundit
Paul Robinson has claimed Julian Alvarez has gone “under the radar” since signing for Man City in January.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Spurs and England number one suggested the 22-year-old will be handed a major role by Pep Guardiola following the exits of Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus.
Alvarez signed for City in January but returned to River Plate on loan for the remainder of the 2021-22 campaign.
The Argentina international will be part of the Premier League champions’ squad for the upcoming season though.
As quoted by Sport Bible (23 July), Kevin De Bruyne predicted Alvarez could become “a big player” for City from what he’s seen so far.
When asked by Football Insider for his assessment of Alvarez after two outings in pre-season, Robinson said: “Alvarez is a signing that went under the radar because he went back out on loan again.
“Pep has always known about the quality he possesses. He knows the quality he has at his disposal.
“To allow Sterling and Jesus to leave shows you just how much Pep thinks of the player.
“We have seen little flashes in pre-season of what he can do. You cannot read too much into it but from that and his performances for River Plate last season, there is reason to be excited.

“Alvarez was almost forgotten after going out on loan.
“I think we will see a lot of him next season given that Sterling and Jesus have left. I expect him to impress.”
