Man City backed to sign Erling Haaland ally after confirmed transfer news – pundit

Man City will sign a left-back capable of providing top-quality early crosses for Erling Haaland this summer, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England forward claimed Pep Guardiola may change his tactical approach with a recognised forward leading the line.

As quoted by the Telegraph on Monday (30 May), City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak confirmed “there will be more players coming in” this summer.

They have already wrapped up a deal for Haaland, 21, and it is claimed they will now move onto a left-back and a new defensive midfielder with Brighton & Hove Albion’s Marc Cucurella and Leeds United’s Kalvin Phillips both key targets.

“They do need a left-back,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“It’s Ok having [Joao] Cancelo playing there and [Oleksandr] Zinchenko but they need to fill that role.

“That will be one of the areas they look at, a top left-back who can put in crosses.

“As much as Pep loves the way they play when he first came in it was the full-backs getting to the byline and whipping early crosses in. That might be the tactic that Pep wants to use with Haaland.

“Haaland will want a lot of crosses coming into the box so he’ll want a left-back who can use his pace and get early crosses in.”

Haaland scored 62 goals in 67 Bundesliga appearances for Borussia Dortmund, averaging a goal every 86.9 minutes.

For comparison, Sergio Aguero found the net every 107.9 minutes in the Premier League as he ended his top-flight career with 184 goals in 275 games.
