Kieran Maguire: Man City have agreed ‘sensational best-in-the-world’ deal amid £160m reveal

Brazil is the greatest exporter of footballers on the planet – and Man City can now tap into this via their connection with Bahia.

That is the view of finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about City Football Group’s takeover of the historic Brazilian side.

A source told Football Insider on 29 November that Bahia club members would vote in favour of the group’s £114million takeover of their club the following Saturday (3 December).

The deal has now been confirmed, with Bahia president Guilherme Bellintani revealing that the multi-club network plan to spend £160m on new signings and infrastructure projects in the coming years.

City Football Group now own 12 clubs worldwide, including high-value New York City.

But Maguire suggests that their latest takeover could be their biggest deal yet besides Man City.

“The acquisition of Bahia could be sensational from a Man City point of view,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.

“There is no doubt that Brazil is the best exporting country on the planet when it comes to footballers.

“The country’s national success is based on that. Brazilian football attracts interest from fans because players tend to play the type of football that makes people say ‘ooh’ and ‘aah’.

“By having City Football Group involved in the production line, you get the benefits of the sports scientists, the dieticians, the player development department.

“All of the technological concerns at City Football Group’s disposal along with the Brazilian flair could make this the jewel in the crown with the exception of Man City itself.”
