‘Man City blow Chelsea out of the water after extraordinary financial reveal’
Manchester City spent big in the January transfer window in a bid to turn their form around in the second half of the season.
Man City agreed deals worth around £180million for Omar Marmoush, Abdukodir Khusanov, Vitor Reis and Nico Gonzalez in the mid-season window.
It comes after they signed Savinho from Girona for £30million and brought Ilkay Gundogan back to the Etihad on a free transfer from Barcelona last summer.
Figures published by the FA have revealed Pep Guardiola’s side spent £52million on agents’ fees following those six signings this season.
Chelsea topped the list for agents’ fees spending, having paid out £60.3million to representatives throughout the past two windows.
However, former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider Guardiola’s side have spent much more than Chelsea on agents’ fees in recent years following their “extraordinary” spending.
Man City currently sit fourth in the Premier League table, while Chelsea are one point behind them in fifth spot.

Man City and Chelsea have spent big after new reveal
Borson insisted spending big on agents’ fees is a cost of doing business for Man City and Chelsea.
He told Football Insider: “On top of the spending, Chelsea have had to move certain players that were possibly quite difficult to move.
“Those are going to push the price of the agents up because the agents are really earning their fees by making those deals happen.
“I think if you were to compare the Chelsea agent fees against City’s agent fees over the last three years, the Chelsea one isn’t really that much of a story. In many ways, the City one is more of a story because City’s spending has been quite restrained.
“Of course, these are also sales and payments made out to agents for sales as well. But City’s spending through the years is extraordinary as well.
“I think if you’re a club that’s very active in the transfer market with ins and outs, you’ve just got to accept that the cost of doing business is a very substantial amount of money goes to agents. It’s just one of those things.
“I can tell you now that most people in football believe that the agents are earning their crust for the deals that they do, and they are adding value to these deals and to these processes.
“It’s not simply a case of agents dragging money out of the game for doing nothing, which is sort of a common misconception. The numbers are big. You can’t ignore the fact that it’s £500million in each of the last two years.
“It’s obviously a lot of money, but I think it is just the cost of being a Premier League club.”
