Kieran Maguire: Man City ‘bullies’ to cash in as £1.3bn Uefa deal agreed
Man City will be one of the main beneficiaries from the new Champions League TV deal as they have proved they can “bully” their peers into giving them a bigger slice of the pie.
That is the view of finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about Uefa’s new and improved United States TV deal.
The Daily Mail reported last Friday (19 July) that Paramount Global have paid £1.27billion to acquire the rights to air Europe’s premier club competition across the pond for six years from the 2024-25 campaign.

The ECA, who represent dozens of European clubs, are currently lobbying for a fairer mechanism of cash distribution than Uefa’s currently 10-year coefficient system.
But Maguire forecasts that City, who are one of the best-remunerated sides under the 10-year system, will ensure that they continue to profit the maximum amount from the new US Uefa TV cash.
“It’s good news for Champions League clubs,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.
“The ‘Big Six’ clubs bullied other Premier League clubs into changing the Premier League distribution model a few years ago.
“They threatened to set up their own competition if the others didn’t comply.

“Under that, any additional revenues are split half equally and half are split on your final position in the table.
“Over the course of the last seven or eight years, there has been none higher than Man City, so they will be big beneficiaries from this.”
