Kieran Maguire issues ‘enormous’ Man City claim after under-the-radar reveal
The “enormous” overseas Man City fanbase has gone under the radar because many domestic fans do not yet consider them a big club.
That is the view of finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about City’s commercial growth outside the United Kingdom.
As quoted by the Daily Mail last Sunday (29 May), City marketing chief Nuria Tarre revealed that just one per cent of City’s fanbase lives in the UK.

She stressed the importance of engaging the club’s overseas fans through new technologies such as the metaverse.
Maguire argues that the “sniffy” attitude of some fans means the extent of City’s non-domestic following has been underestimated.
“Domestically, City tend to have a local fanbase,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.
“They don’t have the prawn sandwich brigade that the likes of United have. But for any elite club, it is going to be the case that you have an enormous number of fans overseas.
“The interest and support for City are underacknowledged because there is still a bit of a sniffy attitude towards them in certain quarters. That is perhaps unwarranted given the level of success we have seen from them.
“They are certainly very popular in Asia and the Middle East, for example.”

City posted a £2.4m profit on revenue of £570m for 2020-21, the most recent financial year on record.
Commercial income accounted for £217m of that figure.
