Kieran Maguire: Man City ‘copying noisy neighbours’ with latest deal as ‘champagne corks flying’
Man City are continuing to replicate the commercial strategy of Man United with their latest sponsorship deal.
That is the view of finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the reigning Premier League champions’ new partnership with Ballers Champagne.
City, whose commercial success in recent years has matched their many triumphs on the pitch, announced on Tuesday (13 December) that they had struck a deal with the luxury brand.

The company will supply champagne for the club’s corporate and hospitality facilities, and the pair will soon release a limited edition range of City-branded bottles.
Maguire claims that City’s “little-and-often” approach to new commercial deals is similar to that of their rivals in the south of Manchester.
“Man City are replicating their noisy neighbours at Old Trafford with their commercial strategy,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.
“Like United, they are choosing a little-and-often approach when it comes to signing new partnerships.
“They also separate their sponsorships up by industry, and the deal with Ballers Champagne is likely to replicate this approach.

“It is not likely to be a significant revenue stream for Man City, although they do open up a lot of champagne bottles given the number of trophies they win.
“But with the likely introduction of something equivalent to UEFA’s Financial and Sustainability rules, having a wage bill that is linked to revenue means the club has to work that much harder to expand as many income sources as possible.”
