Man City could be about to make ‘massive’ Aymeric Laporte mistake this summer – Agbonlahor
Gabby Agbonlahor has insisted Man City would “definitely regret” letting Aymeric Laporte leave the club in the upcoming summer window.
The former Aston Villa striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the Premier League champions must sign two full-backs before considering parting with the 28-year-old.
According to The Times (18 May), Tottenham and Barcelona are among the clubs monitoring the situation of Laporte ahead of the summer window.
Football Insider revealed earlier this month (8 May) that Laporte has told his agents to find him a new club where he can be a regular starter.
The Spain international won his fifth Premier League title this season but is no longer part of Man City’s first-choice centre-back partnership.
Laporte, who is out of contract in June 2025, has made 22 appearances across all competitions this term – the fewest of any of the club’s centre-backs.
Agbonlahor told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “I think Ake, Akanji, Dias, Stones and Laporte are all top defenders.
“If City don’t go out and buy another right-back and left-back – you can’t get rid of Laporte.
“Stones has played full-back, Ake has played at full-back – it would leave them only two injuries away from massively struggling.
“I think they would definitely regret getting rid of Laporte. He’s a top defender, and there’s a reason why he’s playing every game for Spain.”

Joao Cancelo’s loan exit in January means Man City have just three natural full-backs on their books – Kyle Walker, Rico Lewis and Sergio Gomez.
Laporte has filled in as a makeshift left-back on eight occasions during his time at the Etihad Stadium.
