Man City could be relegated in sensational trial twist – Keith Wyness

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has insisted relegation for Man City is “a real possibility” if they are found guilty of “severe allegations” from the Premier League.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – claimed the top-flight must come down hard on City after dishing out harsh punishments to Everton and Nottingham Forest last term.

The Times revealed on Monday (12 August) that Man City’s 115 charges hearing will start next month with an initial outcome to be made public in the new year.

The Premier League champions were charged last year for a range of alleged rule breaches, including failure to comply with the league’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) for seven seasons.

City have maintained that they are not guilty of any wrongdoing.

‘Relegation is a real possibility’ for Man City, says Wyness

Wyness insisted Pep Guardiola’s side “must be punished severely” if found guilty.

He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “Absolutely, relegation is a real possibility.

“There’s no doubting the severity of these allegations – falsifying reports, hiding payments – if they’re found guilty, they must be punished severely.

“They claim it’s not true, so we’ll have to wait and see.

“Both parties will have the chance to put forward their case in these hearings coming up.

“But the Premier League, having given such harsh punishments to Everton and Forest, they’ve now got to be very tough with City.

“These are serious charges.”
