Man City could now sign Kieran Tierney after journalist’s update – pundit

Noel Whelan has claimed Kieran Tierney could leave Arsenal for Man City if the Premier League champions pay “the right price”.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the 25-year-old is clearly second choice for the Gunners following Oleksandr Zinchenko’s arrival.

According to The Telegraph‘s Mike McGrath (11 August), Tierney is among a number of options being considered as Man City look for a senior left-back.

Renan Lodi, Raphael Guerreiro, and Borna Sosa are also reportedly being monitored after Pep Guardiola’s side missed out on the signing of Chelsea ace Marc Cucurella.

Whelan claimed Arsenal would have to replace the Scotland international if he is to depart.

He suggested this could be an opportunity for the Gunners to cash in on Tierney- with his stock set to fall as a result of being second choice.

“I don’t think there’d be any harm if Arsenal were to sell him,” Whelan told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.

“They’ve made it abundantly clear that Zinchenko is their first choice, hence why he started against Palace and Leicester with Tierney on the bench.

“But at the same time, Arteta will know that he needs more than one full-back for the whole season.

“The whole idea of signing Zinchenko was to give that competition, but also to have the option of pushing him further forward.

“They’re in Europe, they’re in cup competitions, they’ll be vying for the top four places – they’ll need as many players as they can get.

“If they can get the right price from City, then I guess it’s a no-brainer.

“They can set the price huge, at whatever they want – and it’s a price you might not get for him next season.”
