Kieran Maguire salutes Man City ‘data’ boffins after £960m news
The data analytics department at Man City deserve huge credit for being the driving behind the club’s stellar recruitment record.
That is the view of finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the results of a recent study by KPMG.
The business analysts released figures on Wednesday (23 February) that showed that City have the highest squad value in world Football.

The reigning Premier League champions have an estimated £960million worth of talent on the books, £140m more than closest challengers Chelsea.
City’s squad value fell 7 per cent on last year’s total as the financial fallout of the pandemic continues to hit market values hard.
Maguire hailed the use of data behind the scenes at the Etihad that he believes has given them the edge over their elite rivals.
“City spend their money well,” he told Football Insider‘s Adam Williams.
“There are other major clubs in the Premier League that haven’t spent money so well.
“Man United, Man City and Chelsea have all spent broadly around £1.4billion since 2012, which is £500m more than Liverpool.
“I think it’s fair to say that City have had the best return on their investment. That is down to their use of data to assess who is the best fit for their club.
“It could be said that Man United and Chelsea buy the name and not the player. You can’t say that to the same extent about Man City.”

City spent £130m on transfers for this season, with the bulk of that figure attributable to the arrival of Jack Grealish from Aston Villa
They beat Everton 1-0 at Goodison Park yesterday (26 February) to reinforce their lead at the top of the Premier League.
