Man City Exclusive: Rivals furious as FFP verdict delayed by a year

Everton and Nottingham Forest upset as Man City verdict held up – there’s ‘consternation’

Man City are not expected to face a verdict on their 115 outstanding financial charges for at least 12 more months, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking to the new edition of Football Insider’s Insider Track Podcast, transfer correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed widespread “consternation” about the delays among City’s Premier League rivals.

Twelve months ago, Man City were charged by the Premier League with 115 financial breaches spanning nine seasons from 2009 to 2018 – but their case is yet to be heard by an independent commission.

Since the start of that time scale, the Citizens have lifted seven Premier League titles and have also seen success in the Champions League.

City have also continued to spend big since their charges were made official – buying five players for mega-money in the 2023-24 campaign.

It is believed all these factors have caused big discontent within the Premier League – particularly with fans of other clubs.

Everton and Nottingham Forest are particularly upset with their own respective charges being fast-tracked by the authorities.

Last month, Premier League chief executive Richard Masters confirmed a date has been set for Man City’s charges to be heard – but refused to make it public.

City have rigorously denied any wrongdoing.

Pep Guardiola’s side are favourites to retain the Premier League title in the 2023-24 campaign and could go top of the table if they beat Everton on Saturday (10 February).
