Revealed: Man City big names land double-your-money pay rise as £12m outlay confirmed

The amount Man City parent company City Football Group paid key management personnel last season more than doubled compared to the previous year, Football Insider can reveal.

City Football Group released their accounts for 2021-22 last Wednesday (5 April), presenting a loss of £182.5million on turnover of £705m, with the bulk of that money coming from flagship club Man City.

It was a fruitful year for the group on the pitch, with Man City, Girona, New York City, Montevideo City Torque, and Yokohama F. Marinos all winning trophies.

City Football Group also added Palermo to their portfolio of clubs during the financial year, an acquisition which they have followed up with the purchase of Brazilian outfit Bahia earlier this year.

The accounts show that key management personnel – who are likely to have received performance-related bonuses – were paid £11.9m during the season, up from £5.3m in 2020-21.

CEO Ferran Soriano, COO Roel De Vries and director of football Txiki Begiristain are among the most high-profile names on the City Football Group payroll.

Non-executive directors of the group meanwhile were not remunerated specifically, as is also the case at Man City itself.

For context, Tottenham – who paid their top brass more than any other Premier League side in 2021-22 – spent £6.8m on director salaries.

City Football Group’s overall wage bill – which is divided between 1501 staff, including players – stood at £488.5m, up from £457.1m the previous year.

Commercial and matchday income also rose across the group’s 11 clubs, in contrast to a slight fall in broadcast cash.
