Kieran Maguire: Man City eyeing Brazilian ‘bargain’ after £71m reveal

City Football Group could use an outpost in Brazil to recruit “bargains” for Man City.

That is the view of finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about CFG’s aspirations in South America.

Respected Brazilian outlet UOL reported on 24 February that the multi-club network is actively searching for a club in the Brazilian market.

It is claimed that City Football Group are aiming to take over a low-status club in the region rather than an established name.

The group, which own 10 clubs in 10 different countries, revealed a £71million shortfall in their accounts published last Friday (4 March).

But Maguire claims that the loss-making organisation could use a Brazilian base to bring talent back to the mothership in Manchester.

“I think they are looking at development,” he told Football Insider‘s Adam Williams.

“Given the experience that City Football Group have in terms of analytics and talent identification, there is an opportunity to pick up a bargain in Brazil.

“If you buy a club, you can use City Football Group’s expertise to identify talent and bring it through at that club.

“There’s no reason why that club can’t be successful in Brazil.

“But ultimately, you’re not going to make much money in Brazil unless you’re selling players, given the way football operates there.”

City Football Group already has a South American presence in the form of Uruguayan side Montevideo City.

They also recently issued a cease and desist notice to Santiago City over the Chilean club’s crest, which is alleged to infringe on their IP rights.

In other news, pundit claims there is “no chance” of Liverpool catching Man City thanks to “unbelievable” star.
