Man City facing Joao Cancelo ‘dilemma’ after Sky transfer update – Robinson
Paul Robinson has claimed Man City manager Pep Guardiola would have “a real dilemma” on his hands if the club signed Sergio Gomez from Anderlecht.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one suggested Kyle Walker and Joao Cancelo would battle it out for the right-back slot at the Etihad.
According to Sky Sports’ Lyall Thomas (4 August), talks are progressing well between City and Anderlecht over the transfer of left-back Sergio Gomez.
The Premier League champions are in the market for a left-sided full-back after Oleksandr Zinchenko was sold to Arsenal.
The Cityzens missed out on their top target Marc Cucurella to Chelsea.
When asked by Football Insider if the arrival of a top left-back would see Cancelo revert to being a right-back, Robinson said: “Guardiola would have a real dilemma on his hands.
“Walker and Cancelo are both world-class players but they are very different types of players.
“Guardiola would have the luxury to play whoever is suited to the opposition best. For example, Walker would start against the bigger sides because defensively he is better than Cancelo.

“Whereas against the lesser side Cancelo might start because he is one of the best in the world going forward. He plays almost like a winger at times.
“It would not be a case of either or though. It would a decision based on which full-backs best suit the opposition.”
