Man City fans all say the same thing about Rodri’s future after what he did vs Leeds
Man City supporters have now made up their minds on what should be next for Rodri as the Ballon d’Or winner continues to be linked with a move away.
Real Madrid have long been linked with taking the Spaniard to the Bernabeu, which could make for an interesting atmosphere in the dressing room after he beat Vinicius Junior to his prestigious award.
Back in England, Man City fans have been waiting patiently for Rodri to get back to his best, having spent most of the 2024-25 campaign on the sidelines with a cruciate ligament injury.
It has been a very sorry sight, watching the award-winning midfielder struggle in the Premier League and Europe, but against Leeds United on Saturday, 28 February, he was one of the best players on the pitch.
Right now, his current deal expires at the end of the 2025-26 campaign, which would allow him to join Los Blancos as a free agent in the summer, but supporters are not ready to see him leave.
Man City fans desperately want Rodri to sign a new contract
The supporters could not make their feelings any clearer if they tried.
With one supporter even suggesting a “lifetime contract” for the 29-year-old, very few ever want to see him depart the club, especially not once the summer transfer window rolls around.
It has been widely accepted that it would take more than just a couple of months for Rodri to return to his best, but another supporter described him as “still Rodri” after his display at Elland Road.
- @prince__requiem: “Anyway, the niggles are done. Start Rodri’s contract renewal.”
- @_ntandoy: “We need that Rodri contract extension.”
- @tom_harrison95: “Give Rodri a lifetime contract btw.”
- @RealGrapsInnit: “Lol I accepted it in the summer that Rodri was going to Madrid. Now that I’m seeing how incredible he is again, I’m praying day and night that he signs that contract.”
Rodri’s stats vs Leeds United speak for themselves
Guardiola never looked like needing to call upon Nico Gonzalez to finish the game, with Rodri taking full control in the centre of the park.
In 90 minutes, he took 138 touches, completing 92 per cent of his passes, 15 of which went into the final third, created one big chance and unleashed two shots from distance [FotMob].
Defensively, which is even more important, the Spaniard made one tackle, six clearances and two recoveries, as well as winning 71 per cent of his ground duels and 67 per cent of his aerial duels.
He also won four fouls, one of which was an important moment in the game, going down under pressure in his own penalty area to win Man City a much-needed free-kick while under tremendous pressure.
The Citizens would not have held on for all three points without him, with his leadership and experience shining through in West Yorkshire.
