Man City fans bid farewell to Bernardo Silva after journalist’s update

Man City fans are in unison to bid their goodbyes to Bernardo Silva after receiving an update on his future amid growing exit speculation.

The Portuguese midfielder has endured a difficult season under Pep Guardiola, during what has turned into a frustrating and underwhelming campaign for the club by their high standards.

Silva was widely expected to leave Man City last summer, with both PSG and Barcelona registering serious interest. While a move didn’t materialise then, talk of his departure has resurfaced, and this time it feels more imminent.

With Kevin De Bruyne already confirmed to be leaving Man City at the end of the season, the side could now be bracing for the end of an era, with more high-profile names potentially following him out of the Etihad.

Silva has been a fan favourite during his time at the club, but the City supporters have now been given a fresh update by a journalist on the Portuguese midfielder’s future at the club, in what could mark the closing of a memorable chapter.

Man City don’t see Bernardo Silva as part of long-term plans

Sky Sports journalist Sacha Tavolieri reported on 21 April that Manchester City have already informed Silva he is “not part of their plans” beyond this season.

He added that the midfielder has also “expressed a desire” to return to Portugal this summer, with a potential move back to Benfica being discussed.

Silva will enter the final year of his current contract this summer, so this window represents the last realistic opportunity for City to receive a meaningful transfer fee.

Martin O’Neill recently claimed Silva could be on his way out of Man City due to his limited impact this season, which has arguably contributed to City’s poor season.

While Silva’s versatility and availability have been key as he’s made 42 appearances in all competitions, his direct contributions have dropped, with just three goals and four assists in over 3,200 minutes played.

Bernardo Silva linked with Benfica return as Man City prepare for rebuild

Although Silva has been heavily linked with a return to Benfica, the Portuguese club are reportedly unwilling to pay his £42.6 million release clause.

This summer is expected to be a major turning point for Guardiola’s side, Football Insider revealing that Man City plan to make up to five “big-name signings” ahead of next season.

That kind of overhaul means some established stars may need to make way, and fans have already started saying their goodbyes to Silva following the recent update.

One fan wrote: “It was time for him to leave in 2023 but I’ll take it.” Another added: “The full clear out is needed.”
