Man City fans explode at ‘horrible’ Phil Foden after what he did v Liverpool
Man City fans have exploded at Phil Foden after his underwhelming performance in the Premier League clash against Liverpool at the Etihad.
Pep Guardiola’s side were comfortably beaten against their once-title-rivals, after goals from Mohamed Salah and Dominic Szoboszlai sent the Reds into half-time 2-0 up.
The second half saw City continue to dominate possession but they lacked the attacking threat to break through a steadfast defence, while Curtis Jones had a goal disallowed by VAR.
However, the attentions of the home supporters were once again fixed on the performance of Foden, 24, who was trusted to play in a different role to his usual midfield position.
Deployed as a false nine in the absence of Erling Haaland, the England international was tasked with leading the line and providing City’s main source of attacking threat.
He has come under pressure from the Man City fans this season after failing to step up in the absence of some of their key players while the rest of the team has struggled.
However, Foden failed to make a difference in yet another big game for City, and the supporters are once again asking questions about his consistency.
Phil Foden raises further concern with Man City performances
Foden’s struggles began while on international duty with England at Euro 2024 as he failed to make a difference for Gareth Southgate’s side despite their run to the final.
After his return to City, former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider in November that Man City staff after concerned about Foden’s performances.
So far this season, he has featured 20 times in the Premier League, scored seven goals and provided two assists, but five of those seven goals came in three games against struggling West Ham, Brentford and Ipswich.
As a result, fans are questioning why he has failed to perform in some of their higher-stakes games this season and why his form has so dramatically dropped off.

Foden was named the PFA Player of the Season last term, leading to questions about his struggles since the Euros and why he has failed to impress this term.
This is not the first time City fans have criticised his performances, as they labelled the Man City star “horrible” after a poor display against Arsenal.
Now, following another disappointing performance against Liverpool, supporters have taken to social media to express their frustrations around the “disgrace” midfielder.
