Man City fear ‘expulsion’ after new Premier League action – Keith Wyness
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has claimed Man City are “throwing everything they possibly can” at the Premier League to avoid “expulsion” from the top flight.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – urged City fans to “pressure” their club after they launched new legal action.
According to The Times (4 June), Man City have launched unprecedented legal action against the Premier League in an attempt to end Associated Party Transaction (APT) rules – which the club claims are unlawful.
In addition to the scrapping of these rules, it is claimed that City are seeking damages from the Premier League in a two-week hearing starting next week (10 June).
The news comes with the English champions still facing potential punishment over 115 alleged breaches of financial rules from 2009 onwards.
Man City doing ‘everything possible’ to avoid Premier League expulsion, says Wyness
Documents from Nottingham Forest’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR) case earlier this season revealed a major breach could result in “expulsion” from the Premier League.
Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “Given the time this is taking, the Premier League will be fully prepared.
“This new case is going to soak up management time and resources for them.
“I think what we’re seeing is City going to these extreme lengths because they fear expulsion is really an option if they’re found guilty of these 115 charges.

“They’re throwing everything they possibly can at this.
“I would ask City fans to look beyond blind club loyalty and really think about this. Put pressure on your club, because this is going down the wrong road for football.”
