Man City free to spend £500million after smashing Premier League record – Kieran Maguire

Man City will be allowed to spend around £500million every year under new financial rules voted in by Premier League clubs.

That is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who exclusively told Football Insider that City can consistently spend big in the transfer market if their Abu Dhabi owners are not worried about making a profit.

Top flight clubs have voted to replace the current Profit and Sustainability Rules with a new model similar to the cost cap used within Uefa.

The new regulations will cap spending on transfer fees, wages and agent fees to a percentage of their overall revenue.

Man City ‘delighted’ with new rules – they can spend £500m every year

City broke the Premier League record in their 2022-23 accounts with a total revenue of £713million.

Maguire explained that City can therefore spend £500million each season and still comply with both Uefa and Premier League financial regulations if they maintain their current revenue generation.

Manchester City will be delighted that the Premier League have adopted a squad control cap that is similar to the one that exists within UEFA,” Maguire told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.

We can assume that it’s going to be a 70 percent cap for those clubs that qualify for European competition.

That would allow Manchester City to spend around about £500million a year in respect of wages, agents, fees and their net transfer cost.

Then it comes down to just how much of an investment Abu Dhabi want to make in Manchester City.

Do they want to be close to the limit, or do they want to operate well within it and actually become a more profitable organisation?
