Man City have already found Pep Guardiola replacement – Keith Wyness
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has claimed Man City’s football brains will already have “two or three people in mind” to replace Pep Guardiola.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – insisted Guardiola’s potential departure won’t be “that big of a problem”.
According to the Daily Mail (26 May), Guardiola is “expected to call time” on his Man City tenure next summer when his contract at the Etihad Stadium ends.
The Spaniard has been at the club for eight years and has won 15 major trophies in Manchester – including six Premier League titles.
He has won 349 of his 472 (74%) matches in the Etihad Stadium hot seat.
Man City will have ‘targets in mind’ to replace Guardiola, says Wyness
Wyness claimed CEO Ferran Soriano and director of football Txiki Begiristain are the “best brains” to pick Guardiola’s successor.
He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “The good thing for City if the reports are true and Pep is going to leave, is that they have time to plan.
“With Ferran Soriano and Txiki Begiristain, they have the best brains to pick the next manager.
“They will have two or three people in mind for the last couple of years, I’m sure.
“Everyone clever enough for succession planning, like Brighton have done, will know that.
“They’ll have targets in mind and know the style of manager they want. I don’t think it will be that big of a problem.

“Guardiola has been superb but everyone can be replaced, no one is bigger than the club.
“I do think they’ll have the right football knowledge to make the right appointment.”
