Man City have ‘best striker on earth’ in Erling Haaland after Sunday development – pundit
Frank McAvennie has claimed Erling Haaland will be the next Sergio Aguero for Man City.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-West Ham striker said he has no reason to doubt Haaland, 22, is the “best striker on earth”.
As quoted by Manchester Evening News (19 July), Aguero insisted that Haaland is an “elite” player who will be able to fit into Pep Guardiola’s style.
On Sunday (24 July), Haaland scored on his debut for City in a 1-0 win over Bayern Munich.
The Norway international put pen to paper on a five-year deal at the Etihad earlier this summer.
When asked if he thought the centre-forward could be the next Aguero, McAvennie told Football Insider: “Yes definitely.
“You go to clubs and you’ve got legends who have been there before you. Aguero won them the league and he’ll be in folklore at Man City, and quite rightly so.
“Haaland has come in and he’s a different type of player. The one thing they’ve got in common is they love scoring goals.

“I’ve got a feeling it’s going to be a big season for him. A lot of people are saying they think he’ll struggle. But I just look at him and think he’s got charisma, he’s got confidence coming out of his ears. He’ll probably walk into Man City and think ‘I own the place’ and that’s what you’ve got to do with big clubs like that.
“People are calling him the best striker on earth, and I’ve not got any reason to believe otherwise. I think he’ll walk in there and be a star. I’m looking forward to watching him.“
