Dr Dan issues ‘huge’ Man City claim after development ‘eight years’ in the making
New York City’s MLS triumph shows the “huge strength” of Man City at the head of the City Football Group multi-club empire.
So says Doctor Dan Plumley, speaking exclusively to Football Insider after City’s sister club won their inaugural title last Saturday (11 December).
New York City, founded in 2013, beat Portland Timbers on penalties after the scores were level at 1-1 after 120 minutes in the MLS playoff final.
As per Man City’s media team yesterday (13 December) Pep Guardiola said he was “really impressed” with the “special” achievement across the pond.
Plumley claims that City’s stateside counterparts’ success can only be good news for the global network of clubs.
“It shows the huge strength of City at the top of the group,” he told Football Insider‘s Adam Williams.
“This is a team that didn’t exist eight years ago and they are now MLS champions.
“We know that the way Americans set their sports systems up means more teams have a more equal chance of winning.
“So it’s quite hard to win an American competition because of the nature of the structures, so it’s really positive news.
“It’s good for marketing purposes and PR. We saw the tweets from Man City because of the link there with the ownership.
“The thing with multi-club ownership is that there has to be a strategy. A lot of what we’re seeing at the moment is one focal point at the head of the group.
“That is clearly Man City in City Football Group. Having really strong clubs around the world as well is a positive moving forward.“

City Football Group own stakes in 10 clubs across 10 different countries.
Their revenue for the last accounting year totalled £544million.
