Man City increasingly likely to sign ‘extraordinary’ forward who tore Liverpool to shreds

Manchester City have emerged as one of the front-runners for Antoine Semenyo ahead of the January transfer window.

Bournemouth are bracing themselves for intense interest in their star winger, with Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness exclusively telling Football Insider on 19 November that Tottenham were leading the race for Semenyo.

However, Liverpool will also compete for Semenyo alongside the Lilywhites as they frantically look for a Mohamed Salah successor.

Yet, the latest side to put themselves firmly in the running are the Cityzens as they endeavour to land a statement signing in the upcoming transfer window.

Man City won’t have clear run at Antoine Semenyo with Liverpool still in the mix

Pep Guardiola is known to be a big fan of the Ghanaian after he described him as an “extraordinary player” last month.

The number 24 will be firmly on the radar of the Spaniard in January, especially with the ongoing disappointments at Man City with Savinho.

Yet, the blue half of Manchester will not have an easy route to sign the ex-Bristol City speedster with the Reds also hot on their tails.

Semenyo reminded Liverpool of what he has to offer on the opening day of the Premier League season, as he scored two goals in Bournemouth’s 4-2 defeat at Anfield on 15 August.

Destroying Arne Slot’s side has evidently kept him at the forefront of the manager’s January transfer plans, with one major bookmaker putting the Reds in the lead to land his signature at 7/4.

Although, City are closely behind, with the markets giving them 11/4 odds to snap up the 25-year-old next month.

Who should Semenyo join in January?

Despite sources telling Football Insider that it is more likely Semenyo leaves Bournemouth next summer, the allure of Champions League football could force Andoni Iraola’s hand in letting him leave in January.

Considering both the Cityzens and the Reds are still in Europe’s elite competition, the Ghanaian will need to review who he will be his fiercest competitors down both flanks at both clubs.

Salah’s poor form and limited options on the wings could give Liverpool the immediate advantage at signing the number 24, given there is less competition for wide spots in the team.

However, if Guardiola speaks to Semenyo and makes some key promises over game time, it is possible the tricky winger could be persuaded to head to the Etihad.
