Man City ‘leading the race’ for star Phil Foden hailed in interview – pundit

Man City will not need encouragement from their players to make a move for Jude Bellingham this summer.

That is the view of former Spurs and England number one Paul Robinson, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about Phil Foden’s comments regarding the 19-year-old Borussia Dortmund midfielder.

Bellingham produced an exceptional display on Sunday as England beat Senegal 3-0 to book their place in the World Cup quarterfinals.

As quoted by the BBC (4 December), Foden tipped Bellingham to become “the best midfielder in the world” in his post-match interview.

Man City are one of numerous clubs in the race to sign Bellingham in 2023.

When asked by Football Insider for his thoughts on Foden’s comments, Robinson said: “Man City and Pep Guardiola will not need telling from their players.

“They will be at the front of the race to sign him.

“If City did get him, they would be an unstoppable force next season. Bellingham is a superstar and would take them onto another level.

“The question is, do other clubs have more persuasive powers? It will not come down to finance for him. He will get a top deal wherever he goes. He will demand top dollar. A lot depends on who sells themselves better and which manager he wants to play for.

“In my eyes, he will be in the Premier League next season. It would be a joke if Man City had Bellingham, [Kevin] De Bruyne, Rodri and Bernardo Silva in their midfield.”

In other news, Robinson has issued a ‘big’ Jack Grealish verdict after what he’s spotted.
