Man City may already have Raheem Sterling replacement lined up after £60m update – pundit

Alex McLeish has suggested Man City may already have a replacement for Raheem Sterling lined up this summer.

The former Scotland manager, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed Pep Guardiola could let the 27-year-old leave the Etihad Stadium if he is confident the void can be filled.

As reported by the Telegraph on Thursday (9 June), Chelsea have joined the list of Sterling’s suitors as he heads into the final year of his contract.

Talks over his City future will reportedly take place after the international fixtures.

The report claims the reigning Premier League champions could demand up to £60million for his signing.

McLeish admitted Sterling could stay past the summer but suggested Guardiola may already have his successor in place.

McLeish told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “I could see him staying, although he maybe doesn’t feel as loved as he has over the few years.

“There’s been a wee bit of in and out of the team over the past season. What age is he now, 27? For me, I believe he’s kind of at the peak.

“Whether City think he’s already peaked, I think he’s at the peak. One of the games I saw him in recently, it looked as if he was still trying to prove a point. With that performance, I thought should Man City really let him go?

“I guess it depends on what Pep is going to bring to the table to replace him or what he’s already got at the club to replace him? Everything comes to an end sometimes.

“I feel that Sterling has still got a lot in him. If he goes somewhere like Real Madrid, you can see him doing something there.”
