Man City may face Uefa charge as ‘disgraceful’ footage emerges – expert

Man City and Atletico Madrid can both expect Uefa charges after the “disgraceful” scenes during the 0-0 draw at the Wanda Metropolitano last week (13 April).

That is the view of ex-City and England full-back Danny Mills, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Champions League quarter-final second leg that saw Pep Guardiola’s side progress 1-0 on aggregate.

The game reached boiling point in the closing stages when a foul by Felipe on Phil Foden led to a mass confrontation.

Sky Sports reported on Thursday (14 April) Uefa are awaiting reports before deciding whether they will take any action.

“Once it’s happening everyone likes to see a good old-fashioned dust-up,” Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“I’m sure Uefa will come in and charge both clubs and there will be a slap on the wrist and some fines thrown out.

“Up until the last five or 10 minutes, the way Atletico played in the second half was outstanding, they were unbelievable. They should have scored more than once.

“Phil Foden got caught and as an ex-player you know he meant to leave a little bit on him, caught him with his trailing leg but it wasn’t that bad.

“Foden played Atletico at their own game, rolled around then realised he’s off the pitch so did four or five more to get back on it. That’s when Savic lost his head and tried to drag him off the pitch and descended into chaos.

“People will say they were a disgrace but Simeone has always been like that. They weren’t that bad.

“Savic was disgraceful and [Sime] Vrsaljko when he went down the tunnel, as we’ve all seen on social media, was absolutely shocking disgraceful behaviour.”
