Man City may have offered Fernandinho ‘derogatory’ new contract as Pep Guardiola ‘shocked’ – Mills
Man City may have offered Fernandinho a “derogatory” new contract, according to Danny Mills.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-City and England full-back admitted Pep Guardiola was “shocked” by the news of Fernandinho’s impending departure but he is allowed to dictate the terms of his exit.
As quoted by BBC Sport last week (12 April), the 36-year-old revealed he does not expect to be at the Etihad next season as he wants to play more regularly.

Guardiola claimed that was news to him but stressed how “important” the Man City skipper has been to him.
“Pep seemed quite shocked by it,” Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.
“I guess Fernandinho was being honest. He’s club captain, been a good servant, given everything and they’ve offered him a deal that he might think is derogatory and not even worth looking at it.
“He might think they don’t even want him to stay. Once it’s made clear you are not wanted, in whatever way that is, you’re probably frustrated.
“He’ll also be frustrated that he’s not a regular starter anymore too. When actions show you are surplus to requirements and are no longer needed, that’s difficult to take.
“He’s not done anything wrong. The biggest thing is he’s out of contract and we’re in April. If a new deal isn’t on the table now, when will it be on the table?”

Fernandinho has been limited to just 13 starts across all competitions this term in 25 appearances.
He has been at the club for nine years and has amassed 375 appearances across all competitions.
In other news, Guardiola is ‘not happy’ with a Man City star after a behind-the-scenes brawl.
