Erling Haaland: Man City may have ‘dressing room harmony’ problem as multiple stars could quit – expert

Man City could sell several players to offset Erling Haaland’s huge wages – but they will remain well with FFP parameters in any case.

That is the view of finance expert Doctor Dan Plumley, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the 21-year-old’s mooted move to City.

This site first revealed earlier this year (12 February) that City are in pole position to sign the Borussia Dortmund superstar this summer.

And per the Daily Mail last Wednesday (20 April), City are preparing to activate the centre-forward’s £62million release clause.

It is understood that Haaland could sign a £500,000-a-week contract, which would be £115,000 than City’s current best-paid star Kevin De Bruyne.

Plumley claims that the Norwegian’s astronomical salary could be a threat to “squad harmony” among Pep Guardiola’s men.

“Any big new signing will have implications for the wage structure,” the Sheffield Hallam University expert told Football Insider‘s Adam Williams.

“Sometimes the numbers we see are a little bit inflated and take bonuses and stuff into account. So, you take them with a pinch of salt.

“But anyway, I don’t think they’ll be worried about wage structure from a cost point of view. They are well within FFP regulations.

“We are looking at internal squad harmony. Will players look at Haaland as the benchmark? That does happen.

“We don’t seem to see much squabbling at City about wages but we might see a couple move on to offset some of the cost as well.”

Haaland has netted 25 times in 27 appearances this season.
