Man City may sign keeper as ‘they have an issue with Ederson’ – Stefan Borson

Manchester City could look to sign a new goalkeeper this month after an issue has emerged with Ederson in recent weeks.

That is the view of former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider the Premier League champions will likely find it “impossible” to agree a number of deals in the current transfer window.

Man City’s title hopes have all but gone this season following a run of just one win in 13 games in all competitions before their 2-0 victory over Leicester City.

The Athletic reported on 26 December Pep Guardiola’s side want to strengthen in defence, in the no.6 and no.8 positions, and up front in the January and summer windows this year.

An issue has also emerged with first-choice goalkeeper Ederson, 31, after he’s missed the past three games with an unspecified injury.

Borson admitted Man City would likely be keen to strengthen in that department as well after veteran goalkeeper Scott Carson, 39, has been named on the bench recently.

“They probably wouldn’t say no to a goalkeeper as well,” Borson told Football Insider.

“They have clearly got some issue with Ederson.

“They have had a 39-year-old goalkeeper on the bench, so they have even got a problem there.

“I think it’s almost impossible to do a number of deals in this window.

“They may be able to do one, but two, three or four is impossible.

“If you are a team in the lower echelons of the Champions League, you have still got games in January, so the chances that you are going to sell players before the end of January is pretty unlikely.

“So many teams can still qualify for the next phase.

“I think you would have to make very big offers to move players.”
