Man City news: ‘Big fines’ expected as controversial footage emerges – expert

Atletico Madrid should be hit with big fines and possible suspensions for their conduct during their 0-0 draw with Man City last week (), according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker insisted Atletico Madrid’s behaviour was “unacceptable” and should be punished.

Sky Sports reported last Thursday (14 April) that Uefa are awaiting reports before deciding whether to act.

The game descended into chaos after a Felipe challenge on Phil Foden led to a mass brawl in the closing stages that continued into the tunnel.

The result at the Wanda Metropolitana ensured City booked their place in the Champions League semi-final with a 1-0 aggregate victory.

As quoted by the Manchester Evening News on Wednesday (20 April), Pep Guardiola revealed his medical staff had administered 71 treatments to first-team players after their doubleheader with Atletico and Liverpool in the FA Cup.

Asked whether Atletico should be punished, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Conno Whitley: “100 per cent.

“They will only do it again in the competition next season. They can’t try and bully teams that come to their stadium, it’s not on. The actions in the tunnel as well, it was like something off Mean Machine.

“There needs to be repercussions. Big fines and warnings, if it happens again there’s going to be big suspensions for players and management because it’s unacceptable.”

Man City

Man City will now face Atletico’s local rivals Real Madrid in the semi-finals.

They are one point clear at the top of the Premier League with just six games left to play.

In other news, there has been a big update on Raheem Sterling’s Man City future after preliminary talks.
