Man City news: Danny Mills issues Bernardo Silva quit claim – ‘hang on a minute’

Bernardo Silva is a “joy to coach and play with” and Man City must do everything they can to keep hold of him, according to Danny Mills.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-City and England right-back delivered his verdict after Bernardo admitted he may reconsider his future in the summer.

The 27-year-old told the Times earlier this month (4 March) he wanted to quit Man City last summer because he felt isolated from his family during the pandemic.

Bernardo revealed that he will decide whether he wants to leave, stay or sign a new contract at the end of the season.

“He’s a magnificent footballer,” Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“His work rate, his ability, he must be a joy to coach and a joy to play with.

“He had that little spell where he was out of the team for a little bit so was probably thinking ‘Hang on a minute, I’ve gone from being one of the first names on the team sheet to being out of the team’.

“Now he’s back in and is one of the first names on the team sheet. Players like that are always going to be courted from lots of different clubs and he will think he deserves to play week in, week out.

“I would definitely keep him around, I think he’s a fabulous player.”

The speculation over Bernardo’s future has had little impact on his form this season with the Portuegese netting 10 goals and providing four assists in 38 games across all competitions.

He is currently under contract at the Etihad Stadium until the summer of 2025.
