Man City news: Expert tips Erling Haaland’s ‘preferred destination’ after what he’s ‘heard’

Erling Haaland will turn down a move to Man City in favour of a move to Real Madrid or Barcelona this summer.

That is the view of ex-Spurs and Leeds United goalkeeper Paul Robinson, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about what he has “heard” about the 21-year-old’s future.

This site revealed on 12 February that Man City are in pole position to sign Haaland in the summer.

According to The Athletic‘s David Ornstein (7 March), the Borussia Dortmund striker will make a decision on his future in the next few weeks.

Real Madrid are said to be the other club leading the chase for the centre-forward who has scored a staggering 80 goals in 79 games in Germany.

When asked for his assessment of Haaland’s future, the well-connected Robinson told Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs what his sources in the game have told him.

“City will be favourites to get Haaland if he does choose to come to England but I’ve heard he wants to go to Spain.

“He wants Real Madrid I think, or Barcelona. I’m pretty sure that will be his preferred destination ahead of the Premier League.

“At some point I can see him playing in the Premier League but I think a move to one of the big Spanish clubs is more likely this summer.”

Speaking on plans to sign a striker on Saturday, Pep Guardiola told club media: “We need a striker and I think the club is going to try.

“If it happens, it happens, but if it doesn’t, we’ll wait.”
