Man City news: ‘Incredible’ Erling Haaland deal tipped to spark summer transfer bonanza – pundit
Paddy Kenny has insisted the Premier League’s top sides will have to “respond in a big way” as Man City close in on the signing of Erling Haaland.
The former Republic of Ireland goalkeeper, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the Citizens will extend their dominance for a “long time” with the signing of the 21-year-old.
This site first revealed earlier this year (12 February) that City are in pole position to sign Haaland this summer.
And according to Sky Sports (20 April), Pep Guardiola’s side are now ready to trigger the striker’s €75million (£62million) release clause in a bid to bring him to the Etihad Stadium this summer.
Reports claim the Norway international could scoop a £500,000-a-week wage if a deal can be reached during the post-season.
Kenny suggested the capture of Haaland could prompt teams like Chelsea and Man United to spend big this summer.
“I know he’ll probably be on ridiculous wages but in terms of the transfer fee – it’s an absolute snip,” he told Football Insider‘s Ben Wild.
“He’s only going to cost twice what Ivan Toney could go for this summer, which is incredible.
“Man City and Liverpool are just a cut above everybody at the moment, and with deals like this getting done – that’s going to last for a long time.
“Haaland coming in is just going to make it tougher for these other teams to catch up. They’re going to have to respond in a big way to strengthen and keep pace at the top.”

Man City sit top of the Premier League and are in Champions League semi-final action next week.
Haaland has netted 25 goals in 26 games this term.
