Man City news: Pundit demands points deductions as ‘shocking’ footage emerges – ‘disgusting’
Alan Hutton has called for points deductions to be introduced for pitch invasions after Aston Villa goalkeeper Robin Olsen was assaulted at Man City.
The former Villa defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted serious action must be taken to protect players and punish from further “shocking” incidents.
In footage relayed by Sky News from Sunday’s game (22 May), Olsen can be seen being hassled and approached by fans as they stormed onto the pitch.
City issued a statement apologising for the incident and revealed an investigation had been launched into identifying the perpetrator.
The assault follows an attack on Sheffield United’s Billy Sharp by a Nottingham Forest fan after the play-off semi-finals.
Hutton suggested an automatic points deduction would keep fans in their seats.
Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “It’s shocking, to be quite honest. We’ve seen a lot more of it. Being on a football pitch should never scare or worry you.
“Moving forward, it’s getting like that. What I would do is just take points off teams. It would soon stop it.
“Say that happens at City and automatically you get a three-point deduction if anything like that happens. Man City don’t win the league.
“Next time they’re thinking about running on the pitch, they’ll think: ‘You know what? We can’t.’ Fine them heavily, deduct points and I’m sure it will stop.
“We saw the Billy Sharp one, that was disgusting. Fair play, they acted swiftly and the guy went to jail.”

City came back from 2-0 down to beat Villa 3-2.
Pep Guardiola’s men pipped Liverpool to the Premier League title by a single point.
