Man City news: Pundit drops ‘massive’ James McAtee claim after ‘£30m bid’
James McAtee has a “massive” future at Man City after they knocked back bids worth £30million.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Tottenham and Aston Villa defender Alan Hutton said City’s rejection of big money bids for McAtee will be a big confidence boost for the youngster.
According to The Sun (12 July), Pep Guardiola’s side have turned down offers in the region of £30m for the 20-year-old.
The midfielder’s contract at the Etihad runs until 2026 and he spent last season on loan with Championship runners-up Sheffield United.
McAtee has made six appearances for Pep Guardiola’s side so far despite spending the 2022-23 campaign away from Manchester.
Whilst Hutton insisted it is good news the Cityzens are rejecting bids for the midfielder, it doesn’t mean he is ready to be a first team regular yet.
“I think for a player it is a massive confidence boost,” he told Football Insider.
“If I were him at this moment in time and the club is knocking back substantial offers for you, it would kind of tell me that I have got a future there.
“It is about him going on pre-season tour and showing the manager that he is capable of slotting into a team that is absolutely outstanding.

“I think it is a good confidence boost for him. Do I think he is going to break into the team at this moment in time? No. I think there is still a bit of time yet there.
“Although he has amazing potential, clubs are not going to pay above £30m for a youngster.“
