Man City news: Pundit issues ‘incredible’ Joao Cancelo verdict after journalist’s transfer update
Paul Robinson has suggested Brighton defender Marc Cucurella would struggle to break into the Man City starting XI given Joao Cancelo’s “incredible” form last season.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one claimed Cucurella, 23, would add “strength in depth” to the left-back spot at the Etihad.
According to the Daily Mail‘s Jack Gaughan (8 July), City are expected to make a move for the Spanish defender this summer.

Cucurella is said to be keen on joining the Premier League champions.
The left-back will not come cheap though as he has four years remaining on the contract he signed upon joining Brighton 12 months ago.
When asked by Football Insider if Cucurella would be a smart addition by City, Robinson said: “There is not many positions you can strengthen that side in at all.
“Even at left-back you struggle to see how they can improve because Cancelo played so well last year.
“I know he’s a right-back but he flourished on the left. He was incredible. He is one of the best full-backs in the world.
“It is an area Pep would look at strengthening in because they haven’t got strength in depth there.
“It would not be a disaster if they didn’t though because of what they have got in the squad already.”

Joao Cancelo, Nathan Ake and Oleksandr Zinchenko all played at left-back for Pep Guardiola’s side last season.
The latter two have been heavily linked with an exit from the Etihad this summer.
