Man City news: Pundit issues ‘incredible’ Phil Foden claim after three things he spotted

Paul Robinson has heaped praise on “incredible” Man City attacker Phil Foden after Sunday’s win over Manchester United.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one drew particular attention to the 21-year-old’s “movement, ball retention and positioning.”

Foden starred for Pep Guardiola’s side in a 4-1 win at the Etihad on Sunday.

The England international tormented United defender Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof in a somewhat unfamiliar false nine role.

As shown on Manchester Evening News (7 March), Guardiola was full of praise for Foden in his post-match press conference.

When asked if false nine could be Foden’s best position, Robinson told Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs” “I mean wow, what a talented footballer.

“You cannot say he’s better suited to one position though. He’s one of the best players on the pitch no matter which position he is in. City play with an interchangeable front six and Foden is that good of a footballer he can play in any of those positions. Wherever you play him on that pitch he will shine.

“He is an incredible footballer with outstanding ability on the ball. His knowledge and reading of the game is just so good. His movement, ball retention and positioning is always top class.

“I love watching him. Let’s not forget, he waited for his chance to get into that Man City team and boy has he taken it.”
