Man City news: Riyad Mahrez lauded as ‘best you’ll ever see’ claim made – pundit
Frank McAvennie has been left in awe by Riyad Mahrez after his recent performances for Man City.
The former West Ham hitman, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, hailed the winger as “magic”.
Mahrez, 31, started on the bench as Man City faced Liverpool in the FA Cup semi-finals on Saturday (16 April).
He started against Atletico Madrid on Tuesday (13 April) as his side progressed to the Champions League semi-finals.
McAvennie was blown away by an eye-catching ball forward to Kyle Walker and hailed it as one of the best passes he’s ever seen.
“What a game of football, the stuff on the pitch, the actual football was brilliant,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“There was one of the best passes of the ball you will ever see from Mahrez.
“I was gutted that it didn’t come to a goal because the pass deserves to be remembered.
“He took with the outside of the boot and I just thought ‘oh my god, how the hell has he done that?’.
“He’s a magic player. At Leicester, he was quality. Being honest, I didn’t know if he was good enough for City when he went there.
“But he has been so consistent for them for so long, he always turns up.
“That pass just showed the quality he has.”

Mahrez joined City in the summer of 2018 and has so far made 181 appearances for the club.
He has scored 61 goals and registered 44 assists while winning two Premier League titles.
