Man City news: Stefan Borson drops Rodri ban verdict
Rodri could face a ban for Manchester City after UEFA opened disciplinary proceedings against him for an inflammatory chant following Spain’s European Championships victory.
That is the view of former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider the likelihood is the 28-year-old will miss Spain’s international fixtures in September if he receives a ban.
Rodri and Alvaro Morata were spotted singing “Gibraltar is Spanish” after their country’s 2-1 victory over England, with the FA lodging a formal complaint to UEFA.
The pair were then charged by the governing body, whose disciplinary panel hold the power to hand out suspensions for both club and country.
That means Rodri could potentially miss some of Man City’s Champions League matches once the competition group stages start in September.
Rodri unlikely to receive Man City ban despite charge
But Borson believes it’s unlikely the ban will include Man City games, with the midfielder being a key member of Pep Guardiola’s side.
“It is possible it could be for City games as well,” Borson told Football Insider.
“The ban can spread across all UEFA fixtures.
“If he is banned, I think the likelihood is it will probably be for the first couple of Spanish games in the internationals that are coming up in September.
“There should be limited impact on City.
“I think from a City perspective, they clearly don’t want to be without Rodri because he’s completely critical.
“When he plays, City usually do not lose.

“But I guess the flip side of that is if he’s rested for a couple of games, then at least it takes some of the burden off him.
“Any potential ban could be for City, but it probably won’t be very many City games.”
