Man City news: ‘Unbelievable’ Oleksandr Zinchenko verdict issued after injury update – pundit

Danny Mills has suggested Man City should be able to cope if Kyle Walker is ruled out against Real Madrid thanks to the likes of Oleksandr Zinchenko.

The former City defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the 25-year-old proved his worth during an “unbelievable” unbeaten run last season.

Speaking on Friday (22 April), as quoted by the Manchester Evening News, Pep Guardiola confirmed Walker is a doubt for Tuesday’s clash after missing Saturday’s game with Watford.

City are facing a dilemma at right-back against the Spanish giants, with Joao Cancelo suspended.

However, Mills insisted having the quality of Zinchenko, Ruben Dias and Aymeric Laporte available should help Guardiola at the back.

Asked if Walker would be a big miss for City, Mills told Football Insider’s Connor Whitley: “In the Champions League, maybe. I think it terms of the title race, they’re still very, very strong.

“They’ve got Zinchenko who can play at left-back. Was it last season they hadn’t lost with Zinchenko in the side? It was unbelievable. They went on an incredible run.

“He’s proven he is worthy of a place in that squad and that side. That’s not a big issue for him. Champions League, slightly better standard, so Walker would be a miss.

“You have to deal with this. Getting Dias and Laporte back, that’s way more beneficial. You have to accept you’re always going to have a couple of injuries.

“It’s very, very rare you have everybody in your squad fit.”

Walker, 31, has missed City’s last two league games after picking up an injury against Atletico Madrid.

He has played 30 games across all competitions this term.
