‘Man City plan to sell Erling Haaland and this is when’ – twist after agreement
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has claimed Man City could look to sell Erling Haaland in “five to six years” after his jaw-dropping contract extension.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 67-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – suggested the Premier League champions have locked down the 24-year-old’s prime years with his new deal.
Haaland renewed his contract at City until 2034 last week, with The Guardian claiming (20 January) he will earn a basic wage of £500,000-a-week.
The striker will earn almost £250million in wages if he remains at the Etihad Stadium for the length of his new contract.
He has already hit 112 goals in 127 games since joining City in 2022 and helped Pep Guardiola’s side win their first-ever Champions League title in the following year.
Man City already eyeing huge Haaland profit in 2030, says Wyness
Wyness claimed City may already be eyeing a huge profit on the Norway international in 2030.
He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “It was a bit of a shock to see him sign for nine-and-a-half years.
“When I looked into this, I think City are looking at getting five to six years of Haaland in his prime.
“That’s what they’re looking at right now.
“If football inflation continues the way it is, then who knows what his value will be in 2030?
“City want to get the best five or six years out of Haaland, getting him at his peak – and then review it in year six.

“They’ve taken him off the market for now, that’s for sure. That was the most important thing.
“It’s as much a short-term measure as a long-term one.”
