Man City Premier League expulsion on the cards after development – pundit
Man City could be expelled from the Premier League if they are found guilty of their FFP charges.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, former England and Tottenham goalkeeper Paul Robinson claimed there was “no level playing field” for sanctions following Everton’s and Nottingham Forest’s points deductions.
The Toffees were docked an initial 10 points, which was reduced to six on appeal, for a single financial breach, while Forest were hit with a four-point sanction for irregularities relating to their 2022-23 accounts.
Meanwhile, the Citizens have 115 charges relating to potential financial breaches between 2009 and 2018 which have been under investigation by the Premier League since February last year.
Man City Premier League expulsion a possibility
Reportedly, City could be kicked out of the top flight if the independent commission, which is expected to start hearing the case in autumn, finds them guilty.
Robinson would not rule out such a punishment due to the severity of City’s alleged crimes but claimed recent rulings against Everton and Forest make it tough to predict.
“First of all, we have to look at it from a Man City point of view,” he told Football Insider.
“They’re absolutely adamant that they have not done anything wrong and they’re fighting the case the whole way, hence why it is taking so long.
“They’re quite confident that they can make this go away.
“Four points for Forest, six points for Everton for one breach – can you imagine what Man City have breached if they are found guilty?
“You only have to look at Rangers when they were expelled from the league.
“The way that it’s been run so far – nothing is impossible with the sanctions.
“There’s not a list of punishments that fit the crime.
“They’re each dealt with on an individual basis.
“Forest got less of a deduction [than Everton] because they played ball.
“There’s no level playing field for each crime.
“Everton and Forest were charged with the same thing, but they were both dealt with differently.

“If you look at City, who knows what’s going to happen?
“If they are found guilty, expulsion could be a possibility, but harsh.”
