Finance guru: There is ‘no limit’ to Man City ‘deals’ amid £217m reveal

Man City have been able to go from strength to strength despite the pandemic because of the power of their commercial department.

That is the view of finance expert Doctor Dan Plumley, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about City’s performance over the last two years.

Business analysts KPMG released a study last Monday (31 January) that showed City had held up better than any other team in Covid-hit 2020-21.

City posted a profit of £2.4million on revenues of over £569.8m, with commercial income accounting for £217.6m of that figure.

Plumley explains hows City’s prolificacy in signing new sponsorship deals and commercial projects have helped them ride out the storm.

“We saw this in the accounts recently,” the Sheffield Hallam University expert told Football Insider‘s Adam Williams.

“It is the commercial revenue that has meant they turned a profit. This is where clubs are seeing real growth potential.

“There is no limit to how many deals you can sign and how much you can earn. The bigger clubs like City are realising this.

“This shows the power that City have financially, but also the power they have to extend that further.

“They are generating profits at a time when everyone else is generating losses. It’s the commercial revenue that’s doing that for them.”

City also reaped the financial rewards of winning the Premier League and reaching the Champions League final in 2020-21.

Pep Guardiola’s side are nine points clear in the league and into the last 16 in Europe this time around.
